Glenn Langohr's Drug War Book Roll Call is Getting Great Reviews
The first thing I noticed about the book is the length, Wow 734 pages, I did think I was going to be reading it for weeks as it has got to be the longest book I have read to date.
I infact finished reading this after around 14 hours. This 14 hours did take a week though as I read for a couple of hours before going to sleep.
There was drug cartels, violence, underhand police, crime and it all was very believable, Yes I know its a true story but sometimes truth does not always sound believable.
It seemed that a certain detective would try to bust B.J for just breathing and was on his back all the time trying to stitch him up even when B.J went legit. I really felt for him as I could see all he wanted to do was put the drugs behind him and start over. Which I guess would be pretty difficult when he is being hounded all of the time with drugs raids and the likes for no reason at all.
Prison life sounds as I had thought it would be but the story differed slightly from my own perception, I think it is probably because I can be a little naïve as I have never been in trouble myself so just go by TV programmes of what prison life and prison officers are like.
Roll Call is a fantastic and insightful read. It was very well written and it has left me wanting to know the rest of the story so I will be reading Upon Release very soon.

Ever wonder what a prison riot is like? B.J, a white inmate, serving time on drug charges, gets caught up in a Mexican gang war. The northern California Mexicans demand that the southern California Mexicans keep their shirts on to cover up their gangland tattoos. The prison explodes into chaos as each building erupts in deadly violence. For B.J, the war isn't over when he and over a hundred inmates get housed in solitary confinement, it's just beginning. For getting involved, he's labeled a southern Mexican ganster.
The hardcore action unfolds like a movie in this bare bones thriller of true crime.

"My newest prison thriller is available in print! When the producer of Lock Up Abroad interviewed me, she asked, '“How much of your stories are real?”' I told her the truth, that I paint with the true colors of life on a fictional landscape."
That just isn’t health for all of the involved parties. In my newest prison thriller, since it happened in the 1990′s, none of the places and names have been changed. Send it to someone in prison, or if you want to know what it is like for yourself, read and review it. Thanks! The picture included in this post is me helping my nephew fly!

Sage's Review of My Novel Roll Call

This review is from: Roll Call, A True Prison Story of Corruption and Redemption ( Roll Call Volume 1 ) (Kindle Edition)
Benny Johnson who is known as B.J. has a complicated childhood; a controlling father, a mother trying to keep her family together, and a fierce drive to support himself and his brother. His downward spiral begins when he decides to go to Mexico and set himself up to deal drugs. The trip leads to meeting and scheming with various people from ex-cons, neighborhood dealers, to the deceitful upper class. B.J. considers himself a Christian who acknowledges he is a sinner. His entire life is spent trying to make decisions with an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other. The author, Glenn Langohr, spent a decade in the California Prison system for drug charges. He is no stranger to how life works behind bars. Between Langohr's gifted writing and criminal experience, readers of Roll Call receive the raw truth behind drug addiction, prison life, and fighting to walk the line. While, B.J. is a fictional character, much of his story, and other incidents in Roll Call are based on actual events. There are many different characters in Roll Call, and it is interesting to see how they all interact and affect each other. It's a roller coaster ride following B.J. on his ups and downs. It felt like when he was trying hard to stay straight, there was either temptation dangling in his face or someone trying to keep him down, specifically a detective that received gratification when B.J. was in pain. | ||||||||||||

Best Selling Crime Author Glenn Langohr to Speak at UC Irvine About Solitary Confinement in Prison
Glenn Langohr spent over 10 years in prison on drug charges, with 4 of those years in solitary confinement. While locked down and writing novels, David Hocking, a Pastor from Hope For Today started writing him. David Hocking helped Glenn with instructional publishing guides that helped him further his writing career from behind bars. When released in 2008, Glenn Langohr published his first novel Roll Call. "A harrowing, down-and-dirty depiction--sometimes reminiscent of Steven Soderbergh's Traffic--of America's war on drugs, by former dealer and California artist Langohr. Locked up for a decade on drugs charges and immersed in both philosophical tomes and modern pulp thrillers, Langohr penned Roll Call, a light fictionalization of his troubled life. "I went from obsessively pacing my cell and wondering and worrying about how I was actually going to get my attorney to defend me, and how many years this sentence would bring," writes Langohr in an afterword, "to realizing that if I find a way to write what's in my head, I can find a way out of this hole I had put myself in!" A vivid, clamorous account of the war on drugs. --Kirkus Discoveries, Nielsen Business Media, 770 Broadway, N.Y Yk
Glenn Langohr has published 7 more books and has been interviewed on the radio 4 times. Roll Call
I just finished an intriguing read of a book called Roll Call by author Glenn Langohr. Now when I say intriguing, I need to be careful here because the book was also emotionally challenging as well…the type of challenge that we readers get when we can actually feel the lifestyle mistakes and coming disasters that experience and value based learning teach many of us to avoid, but make for a read that keeps us coming back for the “what’s next”
Langohr’s novel reads autobiographically and delves into the southern California drug culture (mostly marijuana initially, then of course the graduation to meth) and the uncomfortable nervousness that evolves when the movement of large quantities of dope and shady characters intermingle. Throw in the addictive capacity of methamphetamine and you have a true recipe for personal and professional disaster. You can feel the coming crash of an imperfect system of distribution, lying cops and less than honest friends. As a result …prison culture.
Prison culture is a pretty broad term, but what the reader learns from this book is the intricacies of that system. The hierarchy and para- military rank structure that issues orders, directs exercise, survival skills, punishment, coordinated attacks and ultimately…death orders or in the case of rapists and child sex offenders, capital punishment...prison style!
The ride of the novel continues and takes us through the convoluted legal system and the players that are involved. It was fascinating and frustrating at the same time. I can actually say that I have a better grasp of how the system works, or in many if not most cases doesn’t work. Truly an interesting read that grinds on the characters and reader alike.

God is calling us to the Bible
Doesn't it seem these days that words hold so little meaning? When all around us is a whirlwind of chaos and trying to find the meaning of things gets more and more clouded. At times I can sense the desperation. I can see the good in people trying to make sense of it. Fighting against what they are seeing, what they are knowing, that something is very wrong and getting worse.
I spent over 10 years in prison on drug charges and started writing novels. Before I became a run-away 13 year old, I was brought up a Christian and learned enough about God through the Bible to know with all my heart, mind and soul there are no more powerful words then those in the Bible.
As a run-away kid I rebelled against the lack of control and pain of feeling abandoned. I know that my life in the drug war couldn't be stopped without a community, a church, or the love from any other kind of flock to intervene. That leads me to what gives the power to words.
I believe it's the spirit. In Ephesians 6-12 Paul writes about the power behind everything. "For We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Knowing the story of how Paul was an elite Jew who persecuted Christians before his conversion by God, at just the right time to shape the future, I find a little peace and comfort.
Another Bible scripture that brings home my point is in Matthew 17-20. "With a little faith, we can move mountains." This is where the Spirit comes in. No matter how much I believe in something, or how hard I try, I can't change things in a big way like moving a mountain any time soon. But God can and will if He is sought. So if I can get my spirit to line up closer to His, than maybe I don't have to try so hard.
With all of this said, I am going through a difficult time in my marriage and am separated from a lot I know I needed as that 13 year old run-away. My mind tries to make sense of it and I don't even trust my thoughts. In the news everywhere I see examples of how Democracy is hypocrisy and perception is reality. I see the truth divided into so many pieces that nothing seems unified any more. So I seek God and ask, Father bless my thoughts with what you want me to write about in my next book and in all other things so I know your Spirit is guiding me and I'm in your hand.

Press release for best selling crime thriller author Glenn Langohr
Glenn Langohr's New Books-'"Roll Call" & "Lock Up Diaries," Expose the True Story of How the Son of a Sheriff and His Buddies Videoed the Gang Raping of an Underage Girl
In Glenn Langohr's novel Roll Call, the Haidl rape case unravels in detail and exposes all the secrets. The case drew national attention in part because Haidl’s father was the assistant sheriff of Orange County, California. In Glenn Langohr’s, Lock Up Diaries, he takes the reader inside of California’s hardest core prison where prison vigilante justice on sex offenders is a matter of honor for many inmates who have been abused in childhood themselves.

Glenn Langohr-Portrayed as B.J in Roll Call
Roll Call by Glenn Langohr takes the reader into the story behind the story of the Haidl rape case. In prison on drug charges during the writing of “Roll Call”, Glenn Langohr empathized with the rape victim’s pain and further embarrassment of being labeled, “a promiscuous girl who aspired to be a porn star”, by private investigators and attorneys intent to clear the son of the sheriff of rape charges.
“I was sick of the hypocrisy of our criminal justice system,” Glenn stated.
Though “Roll Call” is a drug war novel with the intent to bring compassion and smart on crime back to the Justice System, the thread with the Haidl rape case is one of many twist and turns of corruption uncovered for social justice in his books. $16.99 paperback or 2.99 cents in kindle on Amazon
Kirkus Discoveries- “A Master Director of modern pulp thrillers and a harrowing down-and-dirty depiction of the War on Drugs, sometimes reminiscent of Solderburgh's Traffic, by former dealer, California artist Langohr.”
Also by Glenn Langohr- “Lock Up Diaries- A California Pelican Bay Prison Story Series”
A depiction of life inside of prison and a look at the political landscape between races, segregated by cell after being released from the Pelican Bay SHU in California. The amazing details of prison life - code words that prisoners use, explanations of how they communicate from cell to cell - make you feel you have entered a different world, or like you are watching a movie. .99 cents with kindle on Amazon and other outlets and available in audio book.
"A raw, breathless descent through the inner circle of the California Penal Hell. Fraught with detail that only someone who's been there could know." Review by Phillip Doran, author of A Reluctant Tuscan
After a decade in prison on drug charges, Glenn Langohr's vision is to help other drug addicted and lost prisoners find their voice through writing and art. He uses prison art for some of his book covers and started a publishing company, lockdownpublishing.com to open a new avenue for prison authors. Past radio interviews include KSBR 88.5 in Orange County and Buy Back America in Utah
